I qualified as an Environmental Health Officer in 1989 and covered all the various disciplines, eventually specialising in Food Safety, Health and Safety and Infectious Disease Control. In 2001 I moved to Bolton Council as Head of Occupational Safety and Health, helping ensure that staff delivering a range of services were healthy and safe. In 2005 I moved to Leeds City Council, the second largest local authority in England, as Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing. These roles have encompassed health and safety in services as diverse as construction, care, education, office-based, waste management and highways. 

In April 2022 I decided to leave Leeds City Council, following a period of ill health. I am now using my experience to support employers with their health, safety and wellbeing requirements - in addition to any local authorities who may need assistance with food safety and/or health and safety inspections.

In addition to my Environmental Health qualifications, I have a Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (MSc) and a Master's Degree in Business and Administration (MBA). I am a Chartered Member of both the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and the Institute of Environmental Health (CEnvH).

I am registered as a Consultant on the National Occupational Safety and Health Consultants' Register, which verifies that members are currently registered with a relevant professional body, have up to date continuing professional development and have suitable Professional Indemnity Insurance.

  I am married with two children, who are both at university and I live near Haworth, West Yorkshire.
